About the College

Science and Commerce, the Mahajana way
Rattehalli Vasudevamurthy Pooja Bhagavat (RVPB) Pre-University College, on K.R.S. Road in Mysuru, is a pre-university college of the Mahajana Education Society, offering the Science and Commerce streams of the Karnataka pre-university curriculum.
Small practical batches, regular tests, mentoring and close contact with parents keep every student on track for the board examinations, while celebrations, field visits, sports and competitions build confidence beyond the classroom.
“To empower students to acquire, demonstrate, articulate and value knowledge and skills that will support them, as life-long learners, to participate in and contribute to the global world and practice the core values of the institution: respect, tolerance & inclusion, and excellence.”

Mahajana Education Society was incepted in 1937, when students who had failed were not admitted to the government-run high schools. To provide education to such children, the freedom fighters of Mysore of that time, Sarvasri Ramachandra Jois, M. N. Jois, G. Ranganna, H. Anantharao, Agaram Suryanarayana Pandit and other well-wishers led by Sri Ambale Subramanya Iyer, laid the foundation of Mahajana High School in Lakshmipuram, Mysore.
The school, which started with 17 students, moved to Jayalakshmipuram as admissions grew. In the sixties, with the leadership and liberal donation of Sri Rattehalli Ramappa, the Mahajana Pre-University College and First Grade College were started. In the eighties the institution expanded further under Sri R. Vasudeva Murthy, Sri T. Muralidhar Bhagavat and Smt. Dr. T. Vijayalakshmi Muralidhar.
Today the Society offers education from kindergarten to postgraduate level, including Law, Tourism, Hotel Management and Research, with two hostels for girl students. Its activities are spread across 30 acres in two campuses, and its health club and gymnasium serve students and the community around.
Mahajana's alumni include Sri B. Rachaiah, former Governor of Kerala, Sri Tulsidas Dasappa and Sri S. M. Krishna, former Central Ministers, and Sri N. Ramanuja, former Chairman and Managing Director of HMT. More than 5,000 students, about 200 of them from overseas, are on the rolls, and more than 500 employees serve its institutions. The Society celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1962, Golden Jubilee in 1987, Diamond Jubilee in 1997 and Platinum Jubilee in August 2012.
